  • Tips When Shopping for a Plus-Sized Wedding Dress The CURVY collection

Looking for your wedding gown is stressful for any bride, however, you have absolutely nothing to fear when shopping for a plus-sized wedding guide, as we’re going to give you a few tips to make the experience go by without a hitch. Ignore the Numbers To have the best experience when shopping for your wedding dress, don’t bother looking at the sizes. Because higher end brands use special sizing figures, you’re likely to feel discouraged by the numbers you see. Your consultant will find your proper size, so focus on finding dresses you like rather than wondering whether or not it will fit you. Move Past Your Comfort Zone For the most efficient wedding dress shopping experience, step outside your comfort zone and try on dresses you never would have dreamed of. If you’re focused on buying an A-line dress, try on a ballgown or mermaid silhouette as well. You never know what something looks like until you try it on. Don’t Wait to Lose Weight It’s ok to want to lose a few pounds before getting married, it’ll motivate you to start living a healthier lifestyle. However, because wedding dresses can take several months to come in and get altered, it’s not a good idea to wait until you’ve lost a certain amount of weight before you begin the shopping experience. Dresses can always be taken in if you lose some weight after you’ve found your gown. Details can Always be Added So there’s a sleeveless dress you’re in love with but you want to add a bit of coverage to it. Can it be done? Of course, seamstresses can add a multitude of detailing to your wedding gown in order to make it fit your visit perfectly. Don’t be afraid to ask how you can further customize a gown and what costs are associated with it. Put Comfort First Weddings typically take up a large chunk of the day. Between the ceremony, reception, travel and wait time in between, you’ll be wearing your wedding dress for several hours, so make sure the dress is comfortable enough to keep you happy. Don’t try to force yourself into a tighter dress and convince yourself you’ll be fine for the entire day. That’s unlikely to happen, and you don’t want to spend your entire wedding miserable and uncomfortable. A Good Tailor is Essential Having a seamstress with both skill and experience when it comes to altering bridal gowns is essential, especially if you need more support added to the frame. It’ll make a huge difference in the way everything fits, leaving you with more confidence than you thought possible. At Blu Ivory Bridal, our dress consultants are dedicated to helping you and your guests feel comfortable in our bridal store. Located in Toronto, Ontario, our bridal shop carries a wide assortment of wedding dresses for every bride. With spacious fitting rooms and lots to choose from, be sure to call us or visit our website to book your next bridal appointment.

  • Highlighting Shaped Trains

Highlighting Shaped Trains Updated: Aug 19 Why not make your special day even more magical? We are talking about adding a shaped train to your already stunning wedding dress. What are shaped trains? We are glad you asked. We are here to showcase some of the most beautiful shaped trains available today, so you can have that fairytale wedding you always dreamed of! Wedding dresses come in all different shapes and sizes, and so can the trains that come with them! Keep reading to find your perfect match. Scalloped Trains The scalloped train is a popular pick! Featuring the classic scallop-shaped hem with a series of small curves around the edges, these can be adorned by lace or beadery to give that extra flair. There are so many variations and style choices when it comes to scalloped trains. Lace, tulle, glitter, organza, you name it! You can even get a double-scalloped shaped train, this means that there are two layers, one shorter than the other, of beautiful scalloped trains that will mesmerize any crowd when you walk by! If you do opt for the two-layer scallop, you can even get a different shape for the first layer to create a more unique look to the dress. Circular Trains Circular trains give a more classic or elegant look to a wedding dress. These trains could be more suitable for those who have a more modest or conservative style to them, but who still want something a little more extra than a regular train. For those who want to add a more dreamy touch, consider requesting the train to be made out of crystal tulle fabric. This type of fabric will give your train a soft, shimmery glow each step you take down the aisle. V-Shaped Trains V-shaped trains are stunning and more on the unconventional side, but look incredible trailing down the aisle. Consider having the first half of the fabric be solid white to match your wedding dress to show off the shape of the train even further. The edges and tips of this type of train can be adorned with beautiful lace details, to bring back a more soft and feminine touch. Either way, the v-shaped train is meant to be a showstopper. Fit-and-Flare Train If you thought the v-shaped train was a little over the top (or not over-the-top enough??), then wait until you lay eyes on the fit-and-flare train. This train is similar in shape to the scalloped train, as it can feature a scalloped edge, but with more va-va-voom to it. The train cascades down the hips, which then flares out dramatically. It will look like a gorgeous waterfall of tulle and lace when featured on a wedding gown, rippling down the aisle. A true sight to behold! We hope that this article helped you get inspiration as to what kind of train would be perfect for you on your perfect day! Here at Blu Ivory Bridal, we are dedicated to helping every single bride find her one true wedding dress. Make an appointment with us today to find out why we are one of the top bridal stores in Toronto!

  • 5 Wedding Dress Trends to Know

Fashion is one of those things that’s changing constantly, all while repeating the same looks over and over again, but in new and creative ways. Wedding dresses are no exception. Beautiful, elegant, wild, edgy, whatever you’re looking for, there’s sure to be a dress out there for you. With such a variety available, where do you start? If you’re interested in the latest fashion trends, then here are five wedding dress trends that just may intrigue you. Blush Tones If you want to break from traditional white wedding gowns without going too crazy, blush wedding dresses are a subtle rebellion that adds another layer of personality to the already unique dress choice. Whether you want the colour to be the first thing you notice or subtly woven into the gown, there are several ways to style a blush wedding dress. Shoulder Bows What better way than your wedding day to make a fashion statement. Bows on wedding dresses have come back in a big way, literally. Some dresses out there have huge bows on the side, in the back or at the top of the chest so you can’t miss it. But if that’s not your style, maybe a smaller, more subtle set of bows placed on the shoulders will do. This trend is perfect for brides who want to add a bit of interest without being dominated by it. Detached Sleeves Compromising on what can and can't go on your wedding gown due to its structure or the wedding location can be frustrating when it’s something you truly love. If you want a wedding dress with long sleeves but fear it may keep you too hot at your beach wedding, then this might be the answer. Detachable sleeves that don’t run from shoulder to wrist will give you an elegant look without causing you to overheat. Capes Sheer or opaque, simple or detailed with lace and fabric flowers, the appearance of capes on wedding dresses isn’t likely to disappear anytime soon. There are endless ways to customize and style a cape for your dress, whether you have a strapless dress, one with an open back or whatever design you’re in love with. This accessory won’t hide the dress but emphasize the detail or simplicity of it. Moto Jackets A stylish way to keep warm at your fall or winter wedding without compromising a thing. Whether you choose to wear a classic black or brown moto jacket or stick with an all-white theme, you’re guaranteed to look edgy and gorgeous. This has become a popular bridal cover-up over the last few years, especially as you can customize the back to read ‘bride to be’ or ‘wifey.’ Isn’t that just adorable? At Toronto’s Blu Ivory Bridal shop, our consultants are committed to making sure you feel completely at ease when looking for your perfect wedding dress. We want your appointment to be filled with laughter, love and family. Our wedding gown store is equipped with private, spacious fitting rooms. You will always be in control of the appointment, as we’re here to help you match our stock with the dress of your dreams. Call or go online to book an appointment.

  • The Essential Wedding Dress Dictionary

When it comes to dress shopping, it can feel like you’re learning a foreign language. With so many different terms being thrown around in the bridal world, it can feel like a confusing blur. We here at Blu Ivory Bridal hope to fill you in on all the latest terms for modern wedding dress lingo. We have organized them alphabetically, but fear not! If you see a word you’re not familiar with, chances are we have included it later on. A-Line Silhouette: This lovely style of dress is generally considered to be one of the most figure-flattering styles. It begins with a perfectly fitted bodice and a naturally-defined waist, featuring a skirt with a gradual flare that lightly skims the hips and extends down to the hem. This shape creates the “A” form of the dress. Asymmetrical Waistline: One side of the waist is different from the other, either through differing heights or design. Bateau Neck: A wide horizontal neckline across the collarbone and almost to the shoulder points. Bustle: The sewing method that allows a long-trained gown to transition into a length suitable for walking or dancing. Bodice: The part of your dress above the waist. Boning: The structure that prevents a dress’ bodice from drooping, and is especially common in a strapless dress. Cap Sleeves: A style of short sleeve that just covers the shoulder. Chantilly Lace: Traditionally handmade from black threads, featuring floral or botanical patterns. Usually found on the sleeves and overlays on a gown. Chiffon: A very fine, soft and delicate fabric popular in bridesmaids’ dresses, but has recently grown in popularity for wedding dresses. Corset: The laces on the back of a bodice, either purely for aesthetic or for fit. Fit and Flare Silhouette: Similar to the A-Line style, with a fitted bodice and natural waist, but is fitted through the hips before the skirt flares. Keyhole: A small opening in the back of the dress, which allows for just a peek of skin. Illusion Back: A see-through design that provides the look of an open-backed dress with the comfort and beauty of a full-backed dress. Organza: A silk fabric that is stiffer than chiffon but equally as fine, a similar volume to satin without the weight, and used in full skirts to be more flowy than tulle. Sheath Silhouette: Long and narrow, this shape of dress is a slim-fitting design with straight lines and uses lighter fabrics, usually satin or chiffon. Sweetheart Neckline: A neckline with no straps, featuring two curved lines of fabric over each breast and meeting in V-neck point to form a heart-style shape. Train: The long, trailing portion of the dress of varying lengths. Knowing these terms is only the first step! At Blu Ivory Bridal, we can get you set up for your big day! As Toronto’s premier bridal destination, we can fit you with wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses for anyone, including plus-size! Let us help you say yes to the dress!
